Lewis Thoughts :  March 26, 2016

The first photographer I knew was my father Ed.  He gave me my very first lessons in the darkroom and my initial inspiration. He would let me into his darkroom in his studio at Edward Productions in Montreal until one day I turned the lights on while he had a box of Agfa photo paper open on the counter next to his enlarger.  Needless to say I heard about what I had done for many days after that occurred.  So many photographers knew of my father's KOSTINER PHOTOGRAPHIC company, using his archival print washers and tongs and easels and tanks.  They eventually became the industry standard. So along with the extraordinary photographers I have had the privilege of knowing and spending time with over the years, who all inspired me, I pay homage to BIG ED for all he has done for photography.  The portrait pictures in this link have been made over forty years.  Many in this series I have not seen for a long time, but all their communication and strong work kept me going as a photographer. This link is dedicated to Joe Jachna, who we all lost on March 14, 2016.  Above all else Joe's photographic gift to us was his kind and humble spirit, inspirational work and untiring support for all who sought his wisdom...
